That's That

As in all things medical, it seems, we fixate on the next medical appointment or procedure. All the while we're fixating, we realize that answers rarely come at that moment we've been focusing on. Somewhere down the road, at some less dramatic moment, the final results seep out.

And so it is with my Thursday trip to the Cleveland Clinic. There was nothing too dramatic or earth shattering about my PET scan, nor the bone marrow biopsy, though someone boring through your hip bone usually gets you some sympathy. Actually, I'm a stalwart when it comes to pain. I'm a whimp when it comes to my claustrophobia! Very humbling for someone who has always thought of themselves as being in control. There's a learning experience there: eat humble pie, and take the relaxant!

I'm finding that there's a cycle to the meds I take....a little extra energy at the beginning of the week, plenty of juice to get the lawn mowed and a few things done, followed by what they have termed a "trough" where energy bottoms out, and a slow climb back to average.

Throw in a couple tests with this week's "trough" and you're pretty well wiped out for a couple of days. Still, by now, energy is on the rise. So Monday, we begin the weekly cycle all over again, check in at Summa for the blood draw, mow the grass, give thanks for a little extra zip, and await the test results from last Thursday.

It was interesting to lay there on the biopsy table and have the assistant show me the vials of bone marrow liquid that they had just sucked from my hip and think...... "So you're the little culprits that are giving me all this trouble!" We have met the enemy! Thanks for your prayers. We'll let you know when the test results are in.
